simple answer..ipod plays its own format of music, hence you cant just download mp3s to it without converting it to their format..the others just play mp3s, any format

well, there is no difference NOW.
of course ipods weren’t the first mp3 player, but it was the first to have the capapbility of holding many, many songs.
and so thats why it became one of the most famous, and then other companies used the technology too. but ipods are still more famous because of that.

In terms of music quality you will always be limited by MP3 and the quality of the headphones you use.
The quality will never match what you can achieve at home so go for a cheap deal. Not necessarily the cheapest as this is probably rubbish.
