What’s the difference between Ipod and other mp3 players?
KHAMbreezy asked:
There’s all this hype over the Ipod but I have searched and found other mp3 players that hold more songs and are way cheaper……is their a real difference or is this just a case of ppl wanting to get the “real thing” and not the unknown version?

ipod is the “in-crowd” mp3 player, if you don’t have it, i guess you’re not cool like the ones that do have them.

There isn’t really that big of a difference. Ipod was really the first hard drive mp3 player out there so when some people refer to mp3 players they just call them “ipods” because they were the first things out there. ( think post-it notes) they really set the bar. In terms of large capacity hard drive mp3 players ipod is the clear leader. Other brands that have come out with larger mp3’s (5 GB or bigger) are Samsung, Toshiba, and Creative. The Toshiba gigabeat didn’t last long because of problems with the touch pad. The samsung and Creative verisions all seems to be doing fairly well but the Creative Zen Micros were having problems with the headphone jacks. It depends on how many songs you’re wanting to have on your player and if you want to watch videos/photos or want something more mobile. Also accessory wise ipods have a wider range of products available. Believe me, I’ve had every type of Mp3 player on the planet so if you have any other questions let me know!

With iPod, you must use iTunes (PC application) to put songs into it for them to be playable, once the songs are in iPod, there is NO WAY to put them back to a PC, you must keep your originals in the PC, in case of any hardware failure in the iPod and you want the songs back. This is for copyright management purposes, to prevent song files exchange between users.
For most other MP3 players, they can also act as a portable USB drive, which enables you to exchange data files (mp3 or whatever) between PCs. You can put data files in and pull them out of the mp3 players like ordinary files, no digital protection.
You need to buy an additional headset device to have FM radio feature on iPod. Whereas, a lot of other brandname MP3 players already has that feature built-in, costing nothing extra.
As for showing picture files, as long as the MP3 player is large enough to include a decent size display, they can also show the photos, only thing to be careful is the file format.
iPod is actually a good deal for the higher end, large capacity models, it’s price is reasonable with all the features and the hard-disk size (e.g., the 30GB model)
iPod provide most users a straight-forward, user-friendly interface and application with iTunes. If you’re not tech-savvy enough, iPod should suit you fine. No need to deal with format-compatibility in other MP3 players.
Hope this helps. =0)

get this Just check it out. It is much better than an ipod but costs a lot less. It even has more features like FM tuner, voice recorder, and it can play an formated videos. The ipod nano can’t do any of those.

The iPod was NOT the first MP3 player.
There’s a difference.
iPods are overpriced, lack features such as FM radio, voice recording, FM recording, built-in cameras, line-in recording, and have poor battery life.
Other MP3 players offer those features at a lower price.

A 5G iPod Video is the best. I will give you a whole bunch of reasons why it is worth it (I have one by the way.) First, it can hold 7500 songs. You don’t see many MP3 Players that can do that do you? Also, the video capabilities option is wonderful. I have at least 100 videos on mine, a bunch of south park episodes, the simpsons, family guy, and 10 movies on top of that, and still room for 750 songs and over 400 photos, with 5GB to spare for whatever I want. And the iPod is one of the very few Mp3 players that can be hacked. I mean the real deal, playing Doom, Half-Life, Quake, and more games on it, writing text documents on it, painting pictures on it, and a whooole lot more. Look into iPod Linux, Rockbox, and iPod Wizard (for more info on this, go to .) And I could go on an on all day about why you should get the iPod Video. One other reason: once you have it in your hand the first time, you will never put it down. It’s got a great look and I take mine everywhere. To school, on the bus, to the mall, my friends’ houses, I even listen to it when I’m falling asleep. I’m addicted to it. I love it. If you get one then you will definately know what I am talking about. By the way, I was just talking about the 30GB iPod. If you get the 60GB iPod, then you can double everything I said which would be even better (the 60GB iPod is $400 and the 30GB is $300.) Good luck with your decision.
