sometimes. it depends what area youre in. for it to transmit it needs to be set on a station with nothing being broadcasted, so if youre in an area with few radio stations it will be fine. its not the greatest sound quality either, so i would say its better to be able to plug into your car stereo.

Before I bought a car that had the built in audio jack, I primarily used the Belkin FM transmitter for my iPod. It worked great, and allowed you to select whatever channel you wanted to, that way if you tuned to one that didn’t seem to work that great, you could try others. I never had a problem with it, but I had to avoid the more popular stations, or ones I knew had powerful transmitters because they seemed to not work as well. I generally stuck with like 89.3 - 89.7 and it worked fine.

If it’s an FM transmitter, it’ll tune into any FM frequency (although some low-level ones won’t work). We tune our iRiver transmitter to 93.5 and it works fine.
Not all of them are good; I highly recommend reading user reviews on Amazon or other reputable websites with high traffic. If you live in, say, Chicago, you’ll have more trouble finding a relatively clear station than living in the middle of South Dakota.
We were playing ours on a trip to a high metro area and it worked fine; when we turned it off, we actually had a radio station coming in clearly, but our tuner never picked it up and kept playing the MP3 player.
